A.J, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started playing golf in elementary school and instantly fell in love with the game. After graduating from Purdue University I tried to play on mini-tour(s) and local Pro-events. My teaching philosophy has been shaped by my own golf experiences and using my engineering background from my time at Purdue. Pure Golf’s indoor training facility is a great place to improve your skills and develop an understanding of your golf swing. I have been teaching full time since 2012 and thoroughly enjoy helping golfers improve the efficiency of there golf swing.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
While my understanding of the golf swing and teaching has always been at a high level, learning how to run a business has peaks and valleys. I’ve embraced that challenge and simply try to learn from my mistakes and move on.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Pure Golf story. Tell us more about the business.
Pure Golf is an indoor golf training facility (e.g. golf gym) with hitting bays, a golf simulator and putting/chipping green. I specialize in improving the efficiency of a golfers swing. The beauty of efficiency is that is repeats, ultimately improving ball striking, scoring and enjoyment of the game. I use various tools to measure and analyze the golf swing and this data helps guide us through the process of changing/improving the swing. Really proud of how many golfers I have help improve and ultimately enjoy play the greatest game in the world! My engineering background really helps my understanding of the swing mechanics and being able to convey that information specific to each golfers knowledge/acumen/skill level. I also take more of a training approach instead of the more traditional “golf lesson” approach. This allows the student to apply the ideas/improvements giving them a much better understanding of what they are doing.
